George J Krymow Obituary (1926

George J. Krymow, aka "Jo", 89, of Centerville, OH was welcomed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the eve of January 15. Born August 24, 1926 in Detroit, MI to the late George & Stefanie Krymow, Jo's departure is preceded by his wife Vincenzina "Ginny" Krymow. He is survived by his sister, Dolores Maria Anderson; son, Bruce Krymow, his wife LeeAnn and their daughter Lexi Bella; son, Kelly Krymow and his son Jacob. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Michelle Bard; Cheryl Pivetta, her husband Louis and their son AJ and daughter Lisa Marie; Brian Bard, his wife Jennifer and their son Cypress; and Stephen Bard. Married in Detroit in 1972, Jo & Ginny moved to Centerville, OH to advance their careers and raise their children. Jo had a lively career as a Mechanical Engineer for a number of corporations, and with the U.S. Air Force (USAF) mostly at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB). Engineering was in Jo's blood. As a child he would figure out how to build a treehouse by himself, and as an adult he would build radios. After his first year in college he served the U.S. Army in WWII in Japan during the Occupation and helped build roads and bridges, and received the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal - Japan. Graduating from the University of Detroit in 1952 with a BME, his Post Graduate studies were in Mechanical Engineering, Business Law, German, and Analog Computers. During the Korean War he served the USAF as Project Officer - Instruments, responsible for the development of aircraft engine instruments and earned the National Defense Service Medal. Jo's engineering role grew through the Corps of Engineers, and he quickly became the Transmission Engineer at Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant and developed components for tanks. When Chrysler Corporation took control of the plant, Jo became a Development Engineer for the components for the sighting, gun fire control systems, and other mechanical controls of tanks. He helped determine design parameters for a B-70 aircraft proposal when the USAF sought high flying, supersonic bombers that could carry huge payloads because the Russian detection and tracking technology was catching up to existing evasive American aircraft. Taking a break from the government, Jo next worked as a Design Engineer for the Burroughs Corporation, a major American manufacturer of business equipment. Finally, Jo found his "home" at WPAFB where he worked from 1962-1990. As Project Engineer, USAF, Systems Engineering Group, his specialty was formulating design and operational requirements for gyroscopes used in flight instrument systems including the B1 Bomber series. His skills were also used to plan and develop pilots' flight control and engine management instrument systems for helicopters. After retiring in 1990, Jo greatly missed his career and never quite found equal fulfillment in his retirement hobbies! Jo belonged to several Engineering Societies, the Knights of Columbus, and was an avid NRA enthusiast. He loved history and enjoyed travelling abroad. Jo was known for his love of sailing, skiing, and hiking. He held a passion for German and was a member at Dayton Liederkranz-Turner, Dayton's oldest German organization, where he sang in German in their choir. As a handyman, Jo loved showing his sons how to fix things, but he loved explaining "how things work" to them even more! Jo was a practicing Catholic, had been a member of Queen of Apostles Community Catholic Church at Mt. Saint John/Bergamo Center, St. Leonard Faith Community, and more recently St. Henry Catholic Parish. Jo was a wonderful spouse and father, a good provider, and helped show his sons what a great work ethic was all about. Jo truly represented "The Greatest Generation" that ever lived. We deeply miss you Dad! Loved ones will gather to celebrate Jo's life and share condolences from 10:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am on Monday, February 8th at St. Leonard Faith Community Chapel, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville, Ohio 45458. Reception with food will follow on location immediately after the Mass. A private burial for family will take place on another date.
